High Speed Reel 2011 from Charles Bergquist on Vimeo.
Charles Bergquist slows it down, Bobby Valentino Style, and captures movement in the sexiest slow motion we’ve seen in a minute. Let’s face it, life is more beautiful at 2000fps.
Slow Down, Never Seen Anything So Lovely,

Last weekend, Teresa and I attended Spoke Art’s artist tribute to the greatness that is Wes Anderson films. Think The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Darjeeling Unlimited, and Bottle Rocket all reimagined into artwork so fantastic even Mr. Fox would be jealous, or really honored, since he appeared in half of the show. Wes Anderson is one of my favorite directors, writers, producers, “auteur” by far for his dry humor, amazing muted color palettes, wide screen shots, and of course, his amazing soundtracks. So naturally, when I heard about this show, I told that stupid mick he just made my list of things to do today and I jumped on the next plane to San Francisco to go see it in person, and holy eff – it was pure perfection.

The art work presented at the show were all drastically unique, creatively capturing the spirit of Wes Anderson characters and sentiments in different lights…aka this art show was superbly multidimensional and awesome. The creativity that thrived in each of these pieces was mind blowing, and I am thoroughly thankful to Spoke Art for putting together such an insane exhibit and introducing me to such talented artists. Seriously.

I ordered this pure sex of a piece, Margot by Reuben Island. She is my all time favorite..I mean, seriously, her amazing attire and DGAF-attitude in her monotone, cynical voice..perfection. This fantastic piece gloriously captures her darker side, and I seriously can’t wait until it’s hanging in my room so I can spend endless hours simply staring at it.
Now, go, swoon over all the pieces in the Spoke Art store, order a few, and then spend the rest of your relaxing long weekend with some wine and a six-movie marathon of all Wes Anderson films. At the very least, that’s what I’ll be doing. Have a favorite print or Wes Anderson film, scene, quote, moment? Let me know!
Do all the interns get Glocks?
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I’m going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome,
Melissa

Last week I attended a sneak preview to my husband’s (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) latest movie, 50/50 with my roommate. I was beyond stoked when my good friend Marvin told me he was handing over 2 free tickets to yours truly…uhhh I LOVE FREE STUFF AND I LOVE JOE SO THANK YOU. I had been looking forward to seeing this film for AGES (okay maybe not that long but c’mon, Seth Rogen AND Joe? This film should’ve existed years ago). It might’ve taken 3-4 hours of public transportation/walking but we made it just in time to the movie theater in San Jose #BOOYAH.

Inspired by a true story, the dramedy follows Adam’s (Joe) life after he finds out he is diagnosed with a rare form of spine cancer (his chances of living are roughly 50/50, hence the title). The best thing about this film (other than the fact that Joe is just so adorable in it) is that it’s realistic. There’s none of that “let’s go jump out of rocket ships and snorkel with lochness monsters because I might not get the chance to later” bucket list shenanigans. No, this movie’s too good for that. It’s witty, it’s hilarious (much due to Rogen’s awesomeness), and even though sometimes it gets pretty freakin’ depressing…you still manage to laugh through the sobbing. OKAY it’s not that sad, but I definitely got teary at some points. Whether you get a good laugh or a good cry out of this, you’ll definitely be feeling better after you watch this film. 50/50 opens today so be sure to check it out.

Two nights ago, I stood in line for the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2. This was my first time going to an HP midnight showing and it was pretty friggin’ magical. There was HP trivia going on with the moviegoers, people dressed up in Hogwarts school attire, people playing guitar, and one dude dressed up as a death eater that went through the crowd asking if anyone had seen a boy with a lightning shaped scar on his forehead (brilliant). I dressed up as a golden snitch and longboarded around the parking lot flapping my arm wings. Everyone else I went with was lame and didn’t dress up. I desperately wished someone dressed as Harry Potter would come chase me…really, was that too much to ask?!

I open at the close?!
We solemnly swear that we are up to no good
Warning: possible spoilers ahead!
Like the rest of the films, Deathly Hallows left out/changed/added a lot (A LOT A LOT A LOT) of things. The epic battle scene between Voldy and Harry? 3/4 of it never happened in the book. But I can see why they added it since a simple “expelliarmus” and a rebounded “avada kedavra” probably would not suffice for the average moviegoer. I must always remind myself that it would be impossible to recreate an exact replica of the book…no matter how simple that might seem some of the time (I mean c’mon, they couldn’t have Harry at least fix his old wand and replace that scene with the hella awk scene where Harry and Hermione dance?!). Snape got the justice he most rightly deserved (bawled my eyes out)…but Dumbledore, Percy, Dudley, and Kreacher all remained somewhat evil (pulled my eyes out). But in the end at least Mrs. Weasley still called Bellatrix a bitch.
Seeing that I have been a fan of Harry Potter since I was 10 years old, this night was extremely and epically emotional for me. No joke, J.K Rowling made me feel like I had LIVED in that magical, wonderful world of wizardry for a good 7 years of my life. I found myself wondering why I felt so isolated and lonely each time after I read those books, turns out it was simply because I was yearning to get back on the Hogwarts Express. BUT now that J.K. Rowling is releasing a new EPIC Harry Potter website, Pottermore, my childhood doesn’t really have to end with the last film (check out the video below).
No other book will make me feel the same way again. Thank you so much, J.K Rowling, for your awesomeness.
Mischief Managed,
Teresa
SO I saw Joseph Gordon-Levitt last Saturday night. Jealous? Why wouldn’t you be?

But before I get to that awesome stuff, Joe (we’re on a nickname basis now) is the head honcho of the INGENIOUS online open collaborative production company called hitRECord. Basically, anyone can join and upload any of their original work (video, audio, writing, photography, art, ANYTHING) onto the site, and then the hitRECord community is free to remix it in any way they fancy. So for instance, if I uploaded a video of me professing how awesome I am to the camera, someone else can download that video and add a song, add animations, add a voiceover, add really whatever the hell they want to, they can even edit it or take a screenshot and work from there. And it’s all FREE! HitRECord.org is pretty much an artist’s wet dream come true.
One of the short films created by hitRECord…go to the site to check out more awesome RECords and collabs!
So last week Melissa and I attended hitRECord at the Movies, hosted by Joe at The Vista Theater in Los Angeles. They screened a dozen or so short films (including the one shown above..but instead with Joe doing live voiceover
) and previews of upcoming projects (they also screened a preview of Joe’s newest film, Hesher), and also got the audience to participate in live readings, sing-a-longs, and other awesome stuff. I tried to keep my fangirling to a minimum as Joe entered the theater running through the aisle in all his swaggerific cuteness and charm. Though I can’t say the same for the other girls in the room as they foamed at their mouths screaming and chasing him (including Melissa….jk haa).
Joe performing a cover of Midnight Radio by Hedwig and the Angry Inch….swoooooooooon

I’d hit that,

As are the famous words of the immortal Crimson Bolt, the super hero without super powers in the new and independently released film, Super, starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, and Kevin Bacon and written by James Gunn, known for Slither, Scooby Doo, and Dawn of the Dead (try saying that sentence without taking a breath..whew). Teresa and I had the pleasure of watching this epic movie this past weekend and it was SUPER SUPERB ha…but really, it was especially good. I recommend it to everyone who likes comic books, superheros, absolute hilarity, unneccessary violence and gore, and Ellen Page in spandex. Basically, if you do not enjoy any of those things, we should not even be friends. Watch the trailer now (or don’t, watching movies with no prior knowledge is cool, too):
Many people have complained that this film was too close to the recent movie Kick Ass. The only thing that is comparable is that Super kicked ass…and by that, I mean it kicked Kick Ass’s ass. Not only was it an awesome story of good vs. evil, it was surprisingly endearing and heartfelt…seriously.

Two of the most talented, attractive, perfect people around, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Natalie Portman (King and Queen respectively) come together in what I believe will be my favorite movie of the year, Hesher. This film is a 2010 Sundance Film Festival selection aka an indie film, but an indie film in its truest sense. As Joseph Gordon-Levitt explains via his tumblr (featuring his collaborative production company project, hitREcord, which really deserves its own post, stay tuned), “this really is an “indie” film, meaning it’s being independently released without any huge corporations behind the marketing and advertising and all that jazz. 500 Days of Summer had that “indie” spirit, but it was put out by Fox Searchlight who has tons of resources to spread the word. HESHER’s just got us. So pass it around!” We at TS follow directions well so we are, as instructed by the man who unknowingly owns my heart and soul, passing the courvoisier news around. The film comes out May 8; we will be there, front of the line, and yes, of course I will write a blog review on it!…I thought you’d never ask.
Hesher is starring Natalie Portman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Rainn Wilson; it’s produced by Natalie Portman herself; Metallica gave the movie their music…do I need to further explain how excited I am about this film? Watch the trailer now, and feel your insides squirm with anticipation.

Nothing beats Joseph Gordon-Levitt in underwear and Natalie Portman in adorable glasses. For more information about the movie, go to their website here. And for more badass and sexy as hell Joseph Gordon-Levitt aka Hesher, here is the next movie poster that I hope will grace my wall with all of its unadulterated glory:

Go see Hesher, in Theaters May 8,

Sweet Valley High! The Wakefield twins are making a comeback! The Francine Pascal’s new book (released this past Tuesday!), Sweet Valley High Confidential, follows the “perfect size six, gorgeous, blonde haired and blue eyed” girls, now 27 years old.
Back in jr. high, I felt like Elizabeth, the intellectual, responsible newspaper editor, and Jessica, the popular, boy-crazy cheerleader, were my friends #don’tjudgeme. I didn’t realize that I still felt this way until I was informed that in Sweet Valley High Confidential, the girls are not on good terms (big surprise, what happened this time?) or that Jessica is now living with Elizabeth’s ex-boyfriend, Todd Wilkins (WHAT?!); I seriously felt like I was hearing rumors about people that I went to high school with and have since lost touch.
<br>
<br>
Even more exciting is that Diablo Cody has already finished the script for a Sweet Valley High movie that she’s producing. There is no one better than Diablo Cody, dialogue genius, to bring this cheesy yet spectacular high school girl series to life.
Also, Ms. Cody should hit up Threadsence for costuming because these sisters would definitely rock Threadsence clothing #justsaying.

If you have not read these books and have no idea what I’m talking about, I am sorry for your childhood’s loss. If you do know and are just as excited as I am, join me in sprinting over to the local independent bookstore and picking up a copy of Sweet Valley High Confidential right now. Then leave me a comment, and we can have a virtual sleepover and paint our nails together and gossip about what shenanigans Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield are up to now.

P.S. I also found an article that imagines the Babysitters Club girls as they are older. Perfect.
“A long take is an uninterrupted shot in a film which lasts much longer than the conventional editing pace either of the film itself or of films in general, usually lasting several minutes.” – Wikipedia
Around 2-3 weeks ago my professor assigned us to do the infamous long take. He told us, “A film should be a long take for a reason…meaning it won’t make sense/won’t have the same effect if it’s filmed in any other way.” He then showed us a couple examples of magnificently executed long takes such as the unconventional but SUPREMELICIOUSLY GENIUS Kylie Minogue and Lucas music videos by Michel Gondry (a.k.a Jesus with a camera/my idol) and the more traditional but still eyegasm-worthy C’était un rendez-vous by Claude Lelouch. I was 50% stoked and 50% freaked the chocolatey fudge out. How was I going to pull this off? I wanted to emulate those styles but still stay true to my own style. I ended up sticking to what I knew best…8 bit and shrooms goombas. I hope it speaks to you as much as it does to me..haa. Happy watching!
It’sa me,
Teresa!
