Woman

March 8th, 2013 | Reviews, Music

I die. I seriously am death right now because of Rhye’s debut album, Woman. It is pure magical bliss in the form of soft, sweet music. And to my surprise, this mysterious duo turned out to be dominated by xy chromosomes. Robin Hannibal and Mike Milosh are probably two of the most alluring men in the history of alluring men. Together they prove that you don’t need to be a woman to have a feminine touch.

Beta Love

January 22nd, 2013 | Reviews, Music

The road from Baroque Pop to Electro Synth Pop is not one that can be trekked easily. And I so wish I could say Ra Ra Riot is a band that has come out alive and unscathed. With the newly quartet’s latest release, Beta Love, the band says goodbye to everything they once knew…

If you’re into electronic sugary fire bubblegum pop, then Canadian dance-pop outfit Dragonette is your go-to band. Seemingly always filled with endless energy and electrifying synths, Dragonette packs a mean punch that never fails to jumpstart your body into full-on wavey, dancey, fist pumpy glory.

Sun

September 7th, 2012 | Reviews, Music

Upon first listening to Cat Power’s Sun, I noticed something was different but I couldn’t quite tell what. Chan Marshall’s angelically badass croon of a voice still sounds amazing even after her 6 year hiatus, but Sun had something strange about it that I don’t think I’ve heard in previous Cat Power albums.

The North

September 6th, 2012 | Reviews, Music

Montreal based quintet, Stars, released their sixth album this past Tuesday. The North is your typical Stars album in the sense that it is brimming with gushy/sorrowfully romantic lyrics and playful conversational singing between Amy Millan and Torquil Campbell…
