DIY: Cool Canvas Light Art

December 19th, 2012 | Style, DIY

Fact: it is vital to the sanity of mankind to deck your halls with as many holiday decorations as humanly possible this time of year. Why, you ask? Because lights are shiny and fun, that’s why. But seriously, even the holiday naysayers can’t get enough of them pretty lights. So why don’t we take it a step further? Put a little effort into your decor and turn it into something you can use all year round. We’ll show you how to transform a simple canvas into an awesome light art display for everyone and their mom to enjoy.

What you need:

- Canvas
- Christmas lights
- Scissors
- A sharp knife (i.e. exacto knife, box cutter, etc.)
- Tape
- Pencil

What you do:

- Start out by sketching out your design onto the canvas. It helps to sketch it on the back side so that pencil marks don’t show.

- Once you’re ready to start cutting, use an exacto knife to pierce through the material first. Then you can take a pair of scissors and start cutting out your design.

NOTE: For every part of your design, make sure to leave a portion of it uncut. You want all of the different elements of your design to remain attached to the canvas, so make sure you don’t cut anything all the way out!

- Once you’ve finished making your design, use tape to secure Christmas lights onto the back of the canvas!

Hang your canvas, plug the lights in, and enjoy your new canvas light!
