DIY: School Supplies

August 19th, 2013 | Style, DIY

We’re not sure about you, but one of our favorite things about going back to school was getting brand new school supplies. Because seriously, what’s better than opening a fresh pack of your favorite pens and picking out notebooks for the year? NOT MUCH. But of course, we still needed to throw in a little TS spirit into the mix by giving our supplies a little extra personality with a customized look. Check out these notebook and pen DIYs to get you set to be top of your class.

 DIY PHOTO NOTEBOOK/JOURNAL

 What you need:

- 2 printed photos (measure your journal cover for ideal size)

- Notebook or journal

- Mod Podge

- Scissors

- Fabric

- Foam painting brush

 What you do:

- Cover the front cover with Mod Podge. Leave the spine untouched for now.

- Adhere photo to cover and gently press down to secure photo to place.

- Allow for the front cover to dry completely.

- If there is any excess of photo, use scissors to trim appropriately.

- Repeat with back cover.

- Cut a piece of fabric that fits the journal’s spine as well as its height. We cut approximately 3 inches (larger piece if your journal’s spine is thicker).

- Use Mod Podge to adhere the fabric to the spine. Press down gently to secure fabric into place.

- Allow for the spine to dry completely.

- As you can see from the photo above, we added extra fabric for more eye appeal and texture. You can do the same!

DIY PENS

 What you need:

- Pentel R.S.V.P. Pens

- Assortment of colored and patterned scrapbook paper

- Scissors

- X Acto Knife

- Sparkle craft glitter

 What you do:

- Cut a scrap piece that is approximately 1 and 1/2 inch width. Length of scrap should be approximated from pen.

- Open the bottom of the pen and remove the ink along with the bottom piece.

- As shown above: With the scrap of paper that was previously cut and the ink tucked inside, roll the two together tightly.

- Insert it into the pen casing and close the bottom of the pen.

- If you prefer to add some festiveness to your pens, you can!

- This time, keep the ink inside and simply get sparkle craft glitter and pour them (carefully!) into the pen’s clear casing.

- Don’t forget to securely close the pen, you wouldn’t want glitter to be seeping through.

 - And, presto! You’ve got yourself a new journal and a personalized set of pens for the new school year. Enjoy and don’t forget to show them off :)
