Lately there’s been a massive shortage of XX chromosomes in these mixtapes. I was just about to grab my axe and start some riot grrrl action but then Haim and Florence + The Machine came to rescue me from my spontaneous and most likely highly embarrassing female empowerment tour. Anyway. I’m still on my summer high mode thanks to XY fronted bands like Cheers Elephant and that oh so wonderful remix of KO KO’s “Float” by Polaris At Noon; and you’ll find yourself in it too once you take a listen.

A few months ago we followed Madison of Light Skinned Trouble around a jazzy home studio while he laid down some new tracks. It was a night filled with laughter, dancing, freestyling, and the utmost of geeking out between Melissa and I. Not gonna lie, it was incredible to watch LST do what he does best in that green booth, and to be clear, that is indeed melting our faces off with his lyrical brilliance.

Beach House‘s newest album Bloom is quintessential Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally, and that is never a bad thing. Hypnotizing enough to lull you into a trance of epic goodness, Bloom comes at you in full force with tracks as that swallow you into another galaxy with their giant sized melodies and intoxicating vocals. Who needs drugs when you have Beach House? But then again, Beach House on drugs… well that’s probably another story. Ha.

This outfit is beggin’ for summer. Between the vibrant colors of the dress and Christina’s shades, this color has jump started our summer dreams. AND, she’s even rockin’ tangerine eyeliner. Now that’s dedication.

As you might recall (and hella bonus points to you if you do), we have a penchant for art made of books, and so when we found Cara Barer’s Book Project, we were entranced. She wanted to project the overload of info we have in our daily lives, as well as the future of the old printed word (we prefer hard copies). Her images definitely remind us why real books will always trump kindles.
