Out of Thin Air

January 2nd, 2013 | Media, Art

Everyone likes clouds. It’s basically fact. I mean, we like to take photos of them, we like to gaze at them, we like to fantasize about being with them. I think it’s safe to assume that everyone’s wanted to hang out with them in a more intimate setting, like say in empty rooms and hallways. Netherlands-based artist Berndanaut Smilde has brilliantly made that fantasy come to fruition with his latest Nimbus series. With some sort of magicking and sorcery (and a combination of aerogel, moisture and the right backlighting), Smilde produces mobile puffs of smoke that are pretty much identical to their siblings in the sky. I’ve gott admit, the end result is pretty friggin’ magical.
