Post Potter Depression

July 16th, 2011 | Media, Film

Two nights ago, I stood in line for the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2. This was my first time going to an HP midnight showing and it was pretty friggin’ magical. There was HP trivia going on with the moviegoers, people dressed up in Hogwarts school attire, people playing guitar, and one dude dressed up as a death eater that went through the crowd asking if anyone had seen a boy with a lightning shaped scar on his forehead (brilliant). I dressed up as a golden snitch and longboarded around the parking lot flapping my arm wings. Everyone else I went with was lame and didn’t dress up. I desperately wished someone dressed as Harry Potter would come chase me…really, was that too much to ask?!

I open at the close?!

We solemnly swear that we are up to no good

Warning: possible spoilers ahead! Like the rest of the films, Deathly Hallows left out/changed/added a lot (A LOT A LOT A LOT) of things. The epic battle scene between Voldy and Harry? 3/4 of it never happened in the book. But I can see why they added it since a simple “expelliarmus” and a rebounded “avada kedavra” probably would not suffice for the average moviegoer. I must always remind myself that it would be impossible to recreate an exact replica of the book…no matter how simple that might seem some of the time (I mean c’mon, they couldn’t have Harry at least fix his old wand and replace that scene with the hella awk scene where Harry and Hermione dance?!). Snape got the justice he most rightly deserved (bawled my eyes out)…but Dumbledore, Percy, Dudley, and Kreacher all remained somewhat evil (pulled my eyes out). But in the end at least Mrs. Weasley still called Bellatrix a bitch. Seeing that I have been a fan of Harry Potter since I was 10 years old, this night was extremely and epically emotional for me. No joke, J.K Rowling made me feel like I had LIVED in that magical, wonderful world of wizardry for a good 7 years of my life. I found myself wondering why I felt so isolated and lonely each time after I read those books, turns out it was simply because I was yearning to get back on the Hogwarts Express. BUT now that J.K. Rowling is releasing a new EPIC Harry Potter website, Pottermore, my childhood doesn’t really have to end with the last film (check out the video below). YouTube Preview Image

No other book will make me feel the same way again. Thank you so much, J.K Rowling, for your awesomeness.

    I dressed as a snitch also! http://i.imgur.com/UOfYS.jpg

  3. Noel says:

Ughhh why can’t I be Neville Longbottom and get Luna in the end (of the book)?!

Why weren’t Neville and Luna shown in the 19 years later section in the movie?

Why was this movie so awesome?

Why was crab replaced with some other character in the scenes with goyle and malfoy? Dont blame it on the actor being arrested on drug charges! lol
