Johnny Stimson is probably one of my favorite new acts of the year, which says a lot considering he only has 3 tracks in his back catalogue. This guy is not afraid to go balls to the wall with just his voice alone. And not only does he have an impressive pair of vocal cords, but he seems to carry the entire package: insanely groovable beats, highly infectious hooks, he’s almost too good to be true. So naturally, we strapped on our dancing shoes and set forth to find out at his show at School Night (which is the next best thing since carne asada burritos, because free shows and good people make the world go round).

Too good to be true? Hell no. Johnny Stimson, you’ve made a believer out of me. Though his music has a lot more of a jazzy feel in a live setting – which I had no complaints for. I may have been expecting a lot more heavy, hard-hitting synth action, but I was more than pleased to jazz it up and down in every direction. His set mainly comprised of new tracks, all of which fell in that dancey-pop realm but didn’t shine quite as much as his singles like ‘Here We Go Again’ or ‘Human Man’. There was one exception though, and I can only describe the song as a ‘panty dropper’ because it was that freakin’ sexy (view the video below and prepare for your pants to just fly away into Johnny’s hands). There’s no doubt in my mind that every single person in that room was swooning hard over Johnny’s voice. The crowd happily jived and vibed off of every guitar solo and high falsetto he had to offer. And to top it all off, Johnny’s got a smile that could probably cure cancer.

My conclusion? There should be a lot more Johnny Stimson shows.

You make me feel just right all of the time ,
Teresa
